As he did in WHO NOT HOW, Dr. Benjamin Hardy shares one of Dan Sullivan’s simple yet profound teachings that until now has been known only to his Strategic Coach clients: unsuccessful people focus on “The Gap,” but successful people focus on “The Gain.” "[T]his one simple concept is a masterclass on positive psychology, healthy relationships, mental well-being, and high-performance. Everything that psychologists know about how to create a high-functioning and successful person can be…

Excellent book. A simple concept that has the power to change how you view your progress, overcome inbuilt human negativity bias and live a more fulfilling life. Those might seem like bold claims but this is one of those books with a number of ‘ah ha’ moments that will resonate.

Dan Sullivan explains how he came across the concept while coaching entrepreneurs in his strategic coaching program. He noticed that many successful people are unhappy and feel as if they are not succeeding in life, despite clear histories of achievement. By changing how successes are viewed and reflecting on the journey taken, it’s possible to change your perspective and frame progress positively.

Ben Hardy provides the psychological research and insights that bring this to life, along with a clear framework and approach to apply. I listened to the audio version of the book and it has the bonus of podcast-like conversations between Ben and Dan at the end of each chapter. These bring a lot of additional value with further examples and context.

If you feel as if you’re not succeeding in life and are unhappy with your progress, this book could help you. It’s destined to become a classic in the field.
